DuolingoXR is an immersive language learning playground designed for XR Design Challenge 2024.

DuolingoXR won Best Mobile to XR and Best Use of Shapes XR, and was a Best Packaging Finalist out of 200+ projects and 3,000+ attendees.

Research and UX prototyping was organized on Figma.

Brand research Identifying the Duolingo mission and core principles of their brand identity. Understanding the features of the Duolingo app, and designing how key language learning skills can be taught in XR.

UI design Creating 2D UI in Duolingo's style to be imported into ShapesXR, and creating mockups for 3D UI to be created in Blender.

UX prototyping Design compelling mini-games, features, and interactions with techniques such as sketching and journey mapping.

Understanding Duolingo Visual Style

Duolingo's icons and artwork are playful, fun an abstract. However, they're designed in 2D in mind, meaning that most elements needed to be redesigned to be possible in 3D.

When designing what Duolingo could look like in 3D, it was important to use primitive shapes– spheres, beveled cubes, pills – and flat colors to keep the 2D feel.
